thank you for the lesson I suck at the dealership, but not anymore. so much Ive learned.

Bought my 2020 300S new in Tennessee. Have been using a nearby dealership in Gastonia, NC for service and warranty repairs. Thinking I've stuck my finger into the light socket for the last time. Lovely, competent car that makes me smile every time I drive it. My last Mopar purchase was back during the 1980s in Florida. Same: Decent car - horrible service. I must have the 'mark of cain' on my back.

We recently had an accident where a deer ran in front of the car and totaled the car as it was nine years old. We found a dealer selling a brand new 2023 Hyundai Sonata with good discount and Hyundai had an additional incentive to clear out the 2023 models. Basically the "sales guy" presented us with a price about $5000 dollars more than the price on their website apparently thinking we were suckers. I raised a huge stink in their showroom in front of other customers and they relented and we bought the car at the advertised price. My guess is most people don't pay close enough attention to the paperwork. (also in NC but not Greensboro)

I was surprised that a central Florida dealership still has market adjustments on some vehicles. The ones I saw were in the 10,000 range. I do have to say I was able to negotiate that item off of my purchase 8 months ago. By the way it is a Honda dealer.

I think the first rule of thumb is knowing you don't need the vehicle. They need you to stay in business. Today i will test drive what i want and go home. This gives me time to really think about it. I check the msrp as well. Then phone calls from here on out.

If you pay cash for a car, the dealer is required to file form 8300 and report the cash sale to the IRS! You’ll be raising a red flag!

Here’s a good one. I decided to buy out my leased Toyota. Main reason there were no used or new cars around and mine was appraised above the buyout. The dealer said to buy it out I’d have to pay a $450 document fee for transferring the title and $200 inspection fee. I asked why did he need to inspect it. He said since Toyota was transferring the car to me they have to make sure it’s safe. I told him just give me the f*cking paperwork. He said no. I called Toyota and they said send a cashier check per the lease agreement and they’ll send me papers to retitle it. I did, they did and I retitled the car.

Can special offer financing from the vehicle manufacturer be considered dealer financing?

Emailing requesting a price without giving any other contact information is pretty lame.

The fees go up when the sales prices go down and/or the factory squeezes the dealer for less and less mark-up. The internet has armed the consumer to negotiate lower and lower prices. Factories are sharing less and less of the profits with dealers, too. This is not sustainable long term. Dealers are in the middle getting squeezed, so they have little choice but to find other revenue streams. One big one is dealer fees and addendums. The second is market adjustments above MSRP when the days supply warrants it. These things were not prevalent when I started in the business 25 years ago--but that was before the internet changed the way people buy cars and before factories put a big squeeze on dealers to cover the rising costs associated with government regulation and labor (esp healthcare costs).

I cruised by Ford lot it was loaded with inventory so much so I could barely find spot to park. They had big time price market down on ton of their inventory.

Maybe they said this in the video, but it was too slow, and they were just taking in circles. The last car I bought, I got from 42 to 38 plus 2000 for a car I didn't have the little to do so they just gave ne the 2k and let me keep the car dropping another 2k. I made 36k the price I paid. Manufacturers often offer incentives, but make so you can only get if you finance through them. Depending on what state you're in, you can pay it all off imidealy after getting the loan and not pay any interest, and it allows you to still get the discounts you could only get if financing.

If I got a dollar for everytime I heard someone says, "I am going to see what I get approved for" or "I need to see what payments I can get ". Usually they are lower income or middle class pressed for a newer used car since the POS they are driving just blew an engine. They always over pay and get crap cars.

I bought 2 cars in 2020. A brand new jeep grand Cherokee limited x. Got it out the door for MSRP with everything included. Tax title fees and all and the car was 53,000 and I paid with everything 53,000 total. Also bought a brand new Toyota Camry for 1000 under MSRP out the door with everything included including tax. After I negotiated the price I said I’ll be back with a cashiers check from the bank. Fuck your finance charges and rates.

I’ve bought 6 vehicles out of state. All were fairly painless. 3 of those I flew (I work for an airline).

About 50 years ago, one could go to a dealer with cash and actually get a great deal on the car.

Hi! I met with the VP of the auto dealership as well as the dealership’s attorney today. They were extremely apologetic and offered me $9300 “settlement.” VP also was terminating the crooked finance manager today. The finance manager charged me $1000 more for my vehicle than stated in the original lease purchase agreement. I went to battle with the finance manager and general sales manager for the last 2.5 months over this. Turns out, the dealership owner’s son works as a salesperson at the dealer and reported this whole “event” to their attorney and VP. The attorney called me on a Saturday morning to set up a time to meet. We met today. I’m wondering if I’m settling for too little, but don’t want to be greedy, either.

this was tried on me when I was young man so I got on the hone and called the law and the scared hell out of them it was great !!!!

This guy is a joke. Research and save your money for the vehicle. Don’t pay these to clowns for something you can get free.

First time I bought a car I had no idea what I was doing. But when the first thing that came out of the salesman's mouth was "how much can you afford per month?" I thought what? what does that have to do with anything? I want to know what the actual price of the car is. It was just an instinctive reaction to his tactics. Then they sold me on a $3,000 extended warranty but I had 3 days to change my mind. Well I did change my mind and told them I didn't wan't it. Oh, they were pissed

I worked in banking for about 20 years (retired now for the last 18). Customers were often offended when I told them that if they needed a 60 month loan they probably couldn't afford the vehicle and they should consider another vehicle or coming up with a better repayment plan.

The car depreciates for the one financing and at the same time appreciates for the bank. This causes the GAP! Best way to avoid paying GAP insurance is to buy in cash!!!

Mike Judge depicted car dealer & salesman antics pretty well in King of the Hill, most notably in the 2008 episode "The Accidental Terrorist". Despite Hank Hill being a salesman himself, it doesn't prevent him from buying cars over the years at sticker price. This all comes to a head where Hank repeats his old habit despite his wife Peggy doing the "homework"... y'all's should check out that episode if you haven't done so already!

Forget about negotiating a car deal. Go through Costco or AAA's new/used car program. You'll get a good deal without negotiation. I bought a new car a few years back. It was $22000 on the lot. Through Costco's program when I sat down $2000 was immediately chopped off. Then, a month or so later I was given a check for almost $500 for a discount I wasn't originally given. It's worth it.
